Password Protector
Add password encryption
Password Protector is on the roadmap. In the meantime, explore the other pdf tools.
What is Password Protector?
Encrypt a PDF with a user password so it cannot be opened without it. Uses standard 128-bit AES encryption — the same scheme Acrobat and most other PDF readers natively support. Useful for sharing tax documents, medical records, contracts, or any PDF you do not want a casual reader to open if the file lands in the wrong inbox or shared folder.
How do I use Password Protector?
- Drop a PDF onto the upload zone.
- Enter the password (use a strong one — see Password Generator).
- Click Encrypt.
- Click Download to save the protected PDF.
When should I use Password Protector?
Password Protector adds a password. To remove an existing password (if you know it), use Password Remover. To watermark a PDF visibly instead, use PDF Watermark. To strip identifying metadata, use Metadata Editor.
Which PDF readers support the password?
Acrobat, Apple Preview, Chrome / Edge / Firefox built-in viewers, and most PDF apps support standard password-protected PDFs out of the box.
How strong is the encryption?
128-bit AES, the same scheme Acrobat uses by default. A long random password (16+ characters with mixed cases / digits / symbols — see Password Generator) makes the file safe against brute force in any practical timeframe.
Can the password be removed if I forget it?
Not by this tool — Password Remover requires the current password. Lost passwords on AES-encrypted PDFs are effectively unrecoverable; keep a backup of strong passwords in a manager.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Your files never leave your device, and there is no server component for this tool.
