Word Counter
Words, characters, reading time
What is Word Counter?
Count words, unique words, characters, lines, and paragraphs live as you type or paste. Shows reading time at 200 words per minute, average word length, and the top 10 most frequent words (lowercased, punctuation-stripped). Useful for essays with hard word limits, SEO copy length checks, and getting a quick sense of vocabulary diversity in a draft.
How do I use Word Counter?
- Paste or type your text in the panel.
- All statistics update immediately as you edit.
- The "Top words" panel shows the most common words excluding surrounding punctuation.
When should I use Word Counter?
Word Counter is the right tool for overall content stats. For just character or byte counts, Character Counter is more focused. To find and remove duplicate lines, use Dedup Lines.
How does the tool count words?
A word is any maximal run of non-whitespace characters, matching Word / Docs. "Don't" counts as one word; "foo-bar" counts as one word.
Does it show reading time?
Yes — estimated at 200-250 words per minute, shown alongside character and sentence counts.
Can it count specific words?
Use the keyword-frequency panel to see the top repeated words. Good for SEO keyword density checks or trimming padding from essays.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Your files never leave your device, and there is no server component for this tool.
