Format

Your browser will ask which screen, window or tab to share, and shows an indicator while it is being read. The frame is drawn straight into a canvas in this tab and never sent anywhere. Use a delay if you need to open a menu or hover something first.

This captures your screen, not a URL. A web page cannot render and photograph someone else's website; that needs a server running a headless browser. What it can do, with your explicit permission, is capture what is already on your own display. That is more useful than it sounds: it reaches content behind a login, a paywall or a VPN that no URL-based screenshot service can see, and the image never leaves your machine.

What is Screen Capture Tool?

Capture your screen, a single window, or a browser tab, and save it as PNG, JPG or WEBP. Your browser asks which surface to share and shows an indicator while it is being read; the frame is drawn straight into this page and never sent anywhere. Because it captures what is already on your display, it reaches things no URL-based screenshot service can: pages behind a login, a paywall, or an internal network. A delay timer lets you open a menu or hover a control before the capture fires.

How do I use Screen Capture Tool?

  1. Choose a format, and a delay if you need to set something up first.
  2. Press Capture screen and pick the screen, window or tab to share.
  3. Review the capture.
  4. Download it, or capture again.

When should I use Screen Capture Tool?

Use this for documentation, bug reports and anything behind a login. If you have already taken a screenshot with your operating system, Screenshot Converter turns it into a file without a save step. To crop the result, use Image Cropper; to shrink it, use Image Compressor.

Frequently asked questions

Can it screenshot any website by URL?

No, and no web page can. Rendering somebody else's site requires running a headless browser on a server, which means the page would have to be fetched and photographed remotely. What a browser can do, with your explicit permission, is capture what is already on your own screen. That is a different capability and in several ways a more useful one.

What can this reach that a URL screenshot service cannot?

Anything that needs you to be you: pages behind a login, content behind a paywall, an internal dashboard on a VPN, a desktop application, a local development server. A remote screenshot service sees none of that, because it is not signed in as you and cannot reach your network.

Is my screen recorded or uploaded?

No. The browser hands the page a single video frame, which is drawn into a canvas and encoded in this tab. Nothing is transmitted. The capture stream is stopped the moment the frame is taken, which is why the sharing indicator disappears straight away.

Why does the browser ask me what to share?

Because screen capture is a permission-gated capability, deliberately. A page cannot silently read your display; you choose the screen, window or tab every time, and the browser shows an indicator while it is active. That prompt is a security feature, not an inconvenience.

What is the delay timer for?

Menus, tooltips and hover states vanish when you click elsewhere, including onto a capture button. Setting a delay gives you time to open the thing you want to capture before the frame is taken.

Does it work on a phone?

Usually not. The screen capture API is a desktop capability in practice, and mobile browsers generally do not offer it. Your phone's own screenshot shortcut is the right tool there, and Screenshot Converter will turn the result into whatever format you need.

Which format should I choose?

PNG for anything with text or interface elements, which is most screenshots, because it is lossless and keeps edges sharp. JPG or WEBP only when the file has to be small and the content is photographic.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Your files never leave your device, and there is no server component for this tool.
